Bangor beckon in Welsh Cup semi
ON an afternoon of high drama at Bastion Gardens, Town came back from 3-1 down to reach the semi-finals of the Welsh Cup for the first time after winning a penalty shoot-out against arch-rivals Rhyl to earn a showdown with Bangor City at a neutral venue on Saturday April 10.
Things looked bleak after goals from Mark Connolly (2) and Matty Williams put the Lilywhites in a commanding lead by the half hour even though Michael Parker's angled drive had reduced the deficit on 18 minutes. All changed on the stroke of half time when Gareth Wilson produced a superb volley to put us in with a fighting chance.
Town came out for the second half with all guns blazing and player-manager Neil Gibson restored parity after 50 minutes and when Andy Moran cashed in on a slip by Rhyl keeper Paul Pritchard to produce a calm finish and put us 4-3 up on 76 minutes, Bastion Gardens was in seventh heaven.
But you can never write Rhyl off as they came back strongly and when Rob Turner fired home through a crowded area in the first minute of injury time it looked like fortune might smile on the Lilywhites.
However, Town had the legs, guts and stamina for the additional fight and although the extra half hour failed to separate the teams, the Seasiders' nerve held out through the penalty shoot-out and after Gareth Owen had missed his spot kick it fell to captain Michael Parker to hit the winner which he did with ease.
So history beckons as Town reached the last four of the Welsh Cup for the first time and now Bangor City stand between us and the next stage of the dream! Also through are Port Talbot who needed penalties to beat The New Saints, Bala who edged out Afan Lido and Bangor who beat Llanelli 2-0 live on S4C tonight.
A full report will be posted up soon, league tables for the WPL and Clwyd League have been updated.
Meanwhile the reserves won 8-1 at Llandyrnog to get back on track in the Black Dragon Premier Reserve League. On target were Chris Davies who hit a hat-trick, Jack Higgins who netted twice and Jack Roberts, Tom Patel and Mike Howie.

A fantastic result and a fantastic performance from all of the squad including management, committee, and senior officials of the club such as Tony Thackeray and last but by no means least another of our unsung hero's Mike Walsh who's work and support behind the scenes both physical and financial is phenomenal. I thought both sets of supporters were very well behaved except for the lame brain who cut the net guide rope - but he was 'caught on camera' by Sgorio and hopefully when identified will receive 'suitable punishment'. Shame our AM spat her dummy out at the end of the game. Apparently she wanted the 'segregation rules' bent for her benefit so that she could stand behind the goal where the pens were being taken. Ah well you can please some of the people some of the time etc etc etc. Once again, well done to all connected with P.T.F.C. in whatever capacity - you all contributed to this VICTORY.

What a superb day. The hard work of those "behind the scenes" really paid dividends. How they managed to get the pitch into such a good condition after the state it was in on Monday is remarkable. The tea ladies, the stewards, the bar staff, the ball boys, the turnstile operators and the great supporters were a credit to fine club. As Mike Gibson said "well done EVERYBODY" your dedication is much appreciated by the players and coaches etc. Thank you all, see you at the next home game

As a past player and manager with Prestatyn I can only echo the previous comments.Unfortunately I had a two day flight delay and was gutted that I would not be back for the Rhyl game but I was kept in touch by text as the game built up to its fantastic finale. When I received the result, I think everyone in the airport heard my yells of delight!! Hopefully the "extra supporters" that turned up on the day will have seen how much committment the players and officials put into the club and will return again on match days.Congrats to Gibbo and the boys,a fantastic achievment, bring on the Bangor!
