Seasiders see off Rhuddlan
IT took extra time to kill off a spirited Rhuddlan side in this afternoon's Coast Intermediate Cup tie at Bastion Gardens but the reserves eventually made it through by 4-1 and will travel to Bodedern in the third round in a fortnight's time.
Town went ahead on 37 minutes through Jack Lewis's sweet 20-yard free kick but Rhuddlan struck back straight away and only a fine save from keeper Jamie Roberts and a follow up that hit the post denied Rhuddlan an equaliser.
In the Clwyd Premier Reserve League, all Saturday's games were postponed but Flint's 4-0 win at Rhyl on Friday night knocked Town of top spot. The league table has been updated.
Chris Morrell's side provided stubborn opposition and grabbed a deserved equaliser on 44 minutes through Mike Roose. The second half saw Rhuddlan reduced to ten men after having had a player dismissed by referee Mike Gray but the woodwork came to to their rescue again, denying Jack Lewis from another free kick.
Extra-time saw Rhuddlan finally cave in and a second for Lewis (albeit looking suspicously offside) plus well-taken strikes from Ian Griffiths and Jack Higgins put the Seasiders through.
