WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE - FEB 13, 2010

ALTHOUGH they will be disappointed to have dropped two places in the Welsh Premier following today's result at Bastion Gardens, Prestatyn were also probably relieved to pick up a point against a fired-up Carmarthen outfit.

The Old Gold created the better chances throughout and with sharper finishing would have earned the win they desperately need in their battle to finish in the top 10.

Prestatyn's best opportunity came after seven minutes when a lovely succession of passes between Michael Parker, Neil Gibson and Andy Moran left Steve Rogers with just keeper Neil Thomas to beat, but the striker's somewhat inadequate shot was comfortably saved.

Moran volleyed wide after Gibson won a header in the box, but otherwise it was all Carmarthen with Mark Pritchard heading straight at keeper Jon Hill-Dunt, Neil Smothers having a goalbound shot blocked and striker Tim Hicks volleying over from close range.

Early in the second period Steve Hoult's firm strike was well held by Thomas, then at the other end Hill-Dunt went down smartly to gather a shot from Richard Hughes, who made a dazzling run from his inside his own half before letting fly.

Carmarthen should have scored when Paul Fowler's cross from the right eluded the home defence but Danny Thomas failed to hit the target with a diving header.

The hosts then raised their game, Parker and Ian Griffiths both hitting decent long range efforts which Thomas was equal to.
But Carmarthen, who were also denied a penalty for what looked a blatant handball, always looked the likelier scorers, Thomas' back post header kept out by Hill-Dunt who also foiled Hicks late on.

Prestatyn now drop to eighth in the WPL but also gained another point towards their bid for Super 12 status.
