Big night ahead for youth team
WEDNESDAY (20th) sees our youth side play their long awaited FAW Youth Cup third round tie with Wrexham on the 3G surface at Colliers Park - the Reds' training headquarters (kick off 7pm).
This match was scheduled for the Racecourse itself on three occasions but the arctic weather put paid to those games.
Although the Conference side's youngsters will start as favourites - they demolished a very good Bangor City side 6-1 in the last round - we have a talented group of players who if they perform to their potential should give Wrexham a run for their money. If our boys can close down the threat of Wrexham's free-scoring John Jones and his sidekick, the gifted James Colbeck, well who knows...?
Last season we reached the last eight of the competition before bowing out to Connah's Quay Nomads youth team and it would be good to see as many of our supporters at Colliers Park as there were at Deeside Stadium last year.
Unfortunately a heavy cold has put me out of action for a couple of days so I am unable to make the game but if anyone going can pick me up a couple of programmes or teamsheets I'd be really grateful!
The rest of the draw is as follows:
Buckley Town v Llandudno
Ruthin Town v Porthmadog
Wrexham v Prestatyn Town
Cwmaman Institute v Swansea City
Cwmbran Celtic v Newport YMCA
Ely Rangers v Aberystwyth Town
Llanelli v Afan Lido
All the remaining ties are to be played this coming weekend, weather permitting.
In the one game played so far, Bryntirion Athletic are already through having beaten Neath 4-3 at the Gnoll. The draw for the fourth round (quarter finals) I understand will be made next week and the games will be played on Sunday 21st February.
